LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales

Platform: Disney+

Directors: Michael Hegner and Martin Skov

Release Year: 2015

Watch Date: Week of April 12, 2021

My Rating: 9.2

I realize this is technically a five episode mini series, but if you watch it all at once it is kind of like a movie….right? One of the things that I love about the movies LEGO puts out is their humor. The writers aren’t afraid to poke fun at the original movies they draw their content from.

Droid Tales starts in the Ewok Village at the end of Episode 6. C-3PO starts regaling those celebrating with the story of how he and R2-D2 came bo be friends. Meanwhile, R2-D2 gets kidnapped. The rest of the series manages to go through the first 6 episodes of Star Wars in a way that only LEGO could tell the stories. Each episode unfolds as C-3PO is trying to get R2-D2 back.

Among the plot items to get poked at by LEGO are the origins of the Emperor, the whiney nature of some of the characters, Chewbacca’s missing medal, and obvious plot points. My favorite scenes are when R2-D2 blasts that annoying Jar-Jar off of a space ship and the scene where Yoda “dies” (it looks like he is taking a nap) with his teddy bear. Not gonna lie, I wouldn’t be disappointed if three more episodes were added finishing off the nonology.

I will definitely be watching these again!
