31 Nights of Horror Disco Inferno

Director: Matthew Castellanos

Release Year: 2023

Watch Date: October 28, 2023

My Rating: 8.2

I realize technically, this is a short and not a full movie, but I am going to count it.

We open in 1955 with an older woman (Sister Lynn) at confession admitting that she had just committed murder and stole a baby. She leaves the baby for a priest to find and then hangs herself.

Flash forward to 1975, and a new disco club (Inferno) has opened in the old church. Mel and Brandon are in the finals of a disco competition. By watching their practice session, they are good. They end up in the mezzanine chatting, where Mel sees the ghost of Sister Lynn. She rushes to the bathroom, where she proceeds to throw up and then tells her friend that she thinks she is pregnant.

Mel is taken over by the spirit of Sister Lynn and transported to the empty, unrefurbished church. Sister Lynn reveals that Mel is the baby that she took 20 years ago. She knows that Mel is pregnant and wants the baby, so she attacks her and tries to steal the baby. The jump scare when Sister Lynn jumps out of the confessional at Mel was really good! Brandon finds Mel just in time. She tells him she is pregnant, and he is super happy. He carries her out of the building.

I really loved this short. The costumes are amazing (I would love a dress like Mel’s), as were the makeup and hair styling. The cinematography and lighting set the scenes perfectly, and the background music wasn’t over the top. Great script, great casting. I would definitely watch this again.
