I was not expecting to like this movie. I thought the premise was terrible, and the previews made it uninteresting to me. However, the plot, cinematography, effects, acting, and script were all great. I’m even looking forward to the second installment, M3GAN 2.0.

In this movie Gemma works for a innovative toy manufacturer (although their Furbyesk app controlled doll is creepy, annoying, and gross). Her sister and brother-in-law die in a car accident, leaving behind her niece, Cady. Cady is sad and lonely but shows a lot of interest in Gemma’s college project, a robot named Bruce. Gemma has another robot she has been working on and decides to introduce her to Cady.

Gemma takes Cady to work and introduces her to M3GAN. M3GAN and Cady are paired together and become fast friends. Gemma is excited because now Cady won’t be so lonely, and she was able to show the robot to her boss, who plans to market them as $10,000 toys for the masses.

In her effort to protect Cady, M3GAN kills a dog, the neighbor, and a bully at the school Gemma took Cady to see. Meanwhile, Cady is becoming rude, grumpy, and WAY too dependent on M3GAN. Gemma begins to suspect that M3GAN is operating outside of her protocols and has committed murders. Cady’s dependency on M3GAN created a huge rift between her and Gemma. Gemma wraps up M3GAN, so she can’t hurt anyone and takes her to her lab for the world launch of M3GAN.

Cady is violent on the car ride. Once they return to the lab, Cady and Gemma have a heart-to-heart and decide to go home and not do the launch. M3GAN tries to kill Gemma’s two assistants and does kill Gemma’s boss and his slimy assistant. The crowd assembled for the launch sees the dead bodies on the elevator. Meanwhile, M3GAN sneaks out, steals a computerized car, and returns to Gemma and Cady’s.

M3GAN attempts to incapacitate (or rather paralyze) Gemma so she will get to be a caretaker for the whole family. Cady introduces M3GAN to Bruce, who rips her in half. Gemma tries to get M3GAN’s CPU out, and Cady ends up stabbing the CPU with a screwdriver. At the very end, Gemma’s personal assistant (like Amazon’s Alexa) turns on by itself.

I will definitely be watching this movie again.
