Back to the Future meets Halloween. Delightful, well acted, great costumes, great plot. I highly recommend this movie and will definitely watch it again.
In 1987, three high school girls were murdered around Halloween. They were each stabbed 16 times by a murderer dubbed the Sweet 16 Killer. Thirty-five years later, in 2023, Jamie’s mother is murdered by the Sweet 16 Killer. Jamie is devastated. Her friend Amelia has built a time machine as her science project using plans her Mom had created in high school. While trying to run away from the Sweet 16 Killer, Jamie runs into the time machine and goes back to 10/27/1987, which is the date of the first murder. She tries to save Tiffany but only ends up changing where Tiffany is killed.
She is taken into her mom’s friend group while Lauren (Amelia’s mom) works on her time machine. Her mom and friends think Jamie is a psychic. Jamie tries really hard to stop the murder that happened on 10/29/1987, but instead, Heather is killed instead of Marisa. They come up with a plan to catch the Sweet 16 Killer on 10/31/1987 at the funhouse where Heather was originally killed. Marisa is used as bait. The group manages to surround the killer. Just as he is about to stab Jamie, Kara (the Sheriff’s daughter whom the group suspected of being the murderer) stabs him with her scythe.
Lauren rushes Jamie to the new time machine, but somehow, they are attacked by the Sweet 16 Killer, which shouldn’t be possible. They fight and find out, and it turns out that the new killer is an investigative reporter trying to get a reboot on the story for his murder tour. Jamie ends up killing him and making it back to 2023. In 2023, she finds her parents and meets her 34-year-old brother. She and Amelia are still best friends, and life is much better.
