I’m going to be honest….there really wasn’t much I liked about this movie. I ended up mostly listening to it while I was working yesterday…and I don’t regret that decision one bit. For starters, the story line was tired. Whiney brat is a sore loser so decides to take what he wants anyway with no regard for anyone else….mortals band together to stop the whiney brat and fight among themselves as they go….naturally the mortals vanquish the whiney brat and save the planet just in the nick of time. Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
Aside from Robin Shou (Liu Kane( and Talia Soto (Kitana) the movie was recast, and not to the movie’s benefit. The script was not well written, the storyline was predictable, and the scenery was uninspired. I will say, the one aspect of this movie that I love is Brian Thompson. While he almost always seems to play the same type of character, he always gives each on their ow flair. And that voice (squeeeeee!!!). He played two different characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Luke in season 1 and the Judge in season 2). Consequently the song (Twilight Zone by 2 Unlimited) used as the Mortal Kombat theme also appears in season 1 episode 4 (Witch) of Buffy.
Will not watch again. I realize that I own it, but it came in a bundle with the original.
