Oh my goodness…..I am finally caught up with all of the post templates I had started……..I just need to go back and add The Nun now.
I have to admit that I liked this movie a lot better this time than I did when I first saw it. I still don’t think it is phenomenal or love it, but I did have a better understanding. My favorite thing about this movie remains Cate Blanchett though. She always does such an amazing job in what ever role she takes on.
This installment of Indiana Jones takes place in 1957 and brings back Marian Ravenwood (now Mary Williams) and her son Mutt……who is also Indy’s son. I enjoyed the cleverness of the names. Indy and Mutt are actually named Henry Jones (Junior and the 3rd) and have each chosen a nickname. Junior picked Indiana after the dog he loved, the 3rd goes by Mutt, which is a common term for a dog.
The first time I saw this I failed to see that it was about aliens from the beginning and was disappointed when I figured out it was. This time I noticed right away. In this installment the Nazis have been replaced by the “Reds” (the communist Soviet Union), but the formula is exactly the same. Beat the enemy to the artifact to save the world.
I do appreciate that this movie plays with the conspiracy theory that ancient South American tribes were technologically advanced because they were helped by extraterrestrials. It even went so far as to explain why the ancient Peruvians would bind their heads to elongate their skulls in an effort to look like their alien deities.
I own this one because I bought all 4 Indiana Jones movies together, but I don’t really feel the need to watch it again. Maybe someday when I am wanting to watch a badass Cate Blanchett :D.
