The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Platform: HBO Mac

Director: Michael Chaves

Release Year: 2021

Watch Date: June 14, 2021

My Rating: 6.8

This movie is SUPER slow. Not that I was surprised by the slowness, all of the Conjuring movies have been pretty slow. Sometimes it can be hard to tell a ghost story with all of the relevant details at a fast pace. I do think that the movie was scripted well and that the cinematography was moving, but the slowness really drags the movie down and made the rating low. I wanted to rate it lower for the slowness, but it’s other qualities prevented me from doing so.

Here is another chapter of the Warren’s story. This particular case, follows the true story of Arne Johnson who murdered his friend and then claimed that he was possessed by a demon and the Devil made him commit the murder. While that part of the story is historically true, the rest of the story is a little suspect.

I’m certainly not saying it didn’t happen (maybe a less dramatized version?), but what can for certain be proven is that Arne killed his friend, claimed the devil made him do it, and was sentenced to several years in prison (he got out super early for good behavior). The rest of the movie follows Ed and Lorraine on the trail of a witch who is cursing people because she made a deal with a demon. Naturally Ed and Lorraine stop her and the demon is exercised from Arne.

I will likely watch this movie one more time to pick up anything I missed, but a third viewing is highly unlikely.
