I give this one an A for a good story. Unfortunately, the story wasn’t delivered well. Bad acting, annoying characters, less-than-favorable camera work, and a terrible script are what this movie had to offer. The story's premise is that the Ouija board of Mary Blackwood, a woman wrongly accused of witchcraft by her philandering husband, is tied to her spirit. If you are scorned, you can call on her spirit to claim vengeance for you. That could make for a pretty cool story, right?
Twenty-five years before the story begins, we see two teenage girls playing with the board. One of the girl’s boyfriends shows up and is killed by Mary because he is a cheater. The girl who made the request is then killed by Mary, leaving the second girl, Viola, traumatized. Viola is the mother of our main character, Sarah. Skip to 25 years later, and Sarah works at a bar where a group of men come in pretty much every day and harass her. She shuns their advances and embarrasses them.
Later in the evening, the men (except one named Derek) attack her and assault her. She gets up and finds a curiosity shop open. The shop is run by the aptly named Lilith. Lilith convinces Sarah to use the board to get revenge against the men. Sarah asks the cost, and Lilith tells her it’s her blood, then pricks her finger….which is not a lie but very misleading. Mary Blackwood is then summoned and starts killing the men.
Sarah is unhappy that Mary is killing the men and feels bad for not believing her mom’s stories all these years. When Mary starts to go after Derek, Sarah decides it is time to stop her. She gets a hold of the Ouija board and uses it with Viola and Derek. Sarah commands Mary to stop, and it seems as if she does….until she rips Derek’s heart out. Viola throws the Ouija board into the fire, and Mary disappears. The women leave. The camera moves to a POV of walking through the shop and seeing the Ouija board. Lilith asks if she can help you.
I won’t be watching this movie again.
