31 Nights of Horror Insidious: The Red Door

Platform: VUDU (owned movie)

Director: Patrick Wilson

Release Year: 2023

Watch Date: October 16, 2023

My Rating: 7.8

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. It was nice to have some closure, but at the same time, it wasn’t really closure because they left room for another movie.

In this chapter of Insidious, we get to meet the Lambert family several years after the events of Insidious 1 and 2. Josh and Renai are divorced and the kids are living with Renai. Dalton is starting college and Josh drives him there. The trip doesn’t go well and both men are dissatisfied when they part.

Dalton is at school for art. He paints the red door. The red door begins to draw him in. Meanwhile, Josh is struggling because he has a period of time that he can’t remember. It really bothers him, so he starts seeing a doctor. Eventually, he goes to see Renai, who tells him that she had his memories blocked to protect him. Dalton too.

Then the normal formula ensues. They have to go into the world between so everyone is safe. Ultimately, Dalton paints over the red door, essentially sealing it up. But did he really? The way the movie ends, it’s possible the door can be uncovered again.

I’m sure I will watch this one again, but it isn’t my favorite. The script is okay and the cinematography and acting are good. I still love The Last Key the best of all of them. If you are a fan of the Insidious series, I would definitely recommend watching this one.
