Empires Fall
It takes about 250 years for an empire to rise and fall. The United States (US) Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776…almost 250 years ago. Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the US rose to be a world power that fought for the freedom of its citizens and (when it was in its best interest) the rights of other countries. And now…the US is in a fast decline. Our current administration includes a puppet president and a would-be puppetmaster who can’t be the president based on the US Constitution. This puppetmaster is extremely dangerous not only to the US but to the world. He values the right-leaning ideals that only allow for the freedoms of racist, misogynistic, bigoted, men. If you aren’t scared, you should be.
Although the founders of the US were also racist, misogynistic, bigoted white men, they did craft a beautiful constitution to govern the country. It was so well crafted that many other countries have used it to influence their constitutions (https://prologue.blogs.archives.gov/2021/09/17/global-influence-of-the-u-s-constitution/). Have you ever sat down and read it? I love the preamble:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” (Preamble to the US Constitution)
The founding fathers knew that they wanted to create something lasting. A document to govern the US for generations. Even though it was written with white men in mind, the language isn’t exclusionary. Even the Declaration of Independence wasn’t exclusionary by today’s standards. Take this sentence for instance:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--”
Nowhere in there does it say that it only pertains to CIS-hetero-white men. It says “all men.” Since women are part of mankind, people reading the Declaration today would assume that it is gender inclusive. The declaration goes on to say something truly wonderful that I think is pertinent to the state of the nation today:
“That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
The current administration has certainly become destructive. Do you have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Before I would have said that the answer is no unless you are a white male….but now the answer is no unless you are a self-serving billionaire who wants absolute power and can afford to get it at the cost of the the entire nation. Is that really who you want leading the United States? A puppet and his billionaire friends? They don’t just want the country though….they want the world.
So, as we traverse this dark and uncertain time, I propose a new declaration:
The Declaration of Citizen Emancipation from a Corrupt Self-Serving Government
We the humans of the United States, in order to protect this nation, restore humanity, and create a government that benefits all of the citizens of the country do hereby declare a a breach of trust in the sitting government of the United States. Government leaders are no longer using just powers with the consent of the governed. As such, it is our right to alter or abolish the sitting leaders of all three branches of the federal government to institute a government that will more likely provide for our Safety and Happiness.
As humans of the United States, we hold these truths to be self-evident:
All humans are created equal, regardless of real or perceived differences.
No human is illegal on stolen land.
People who have been historically wronged should be provided remuneration and a formal apology (including but not limited to those with ancestors who were First Nation peoples, slaves, forced laborers, or residents of internment camps).
Women should be free to make decisions regarding themselves and their bodies, including all medical decisions whether a fetus is involved or not.
Love is love regardless of the gender identification of the people in love.
People should be recognized as who they identify as regardless of what gender they were assigned at birth. Transgendered men/women ARE men/women.
Science is real and should be considered. Religious preference should not take precedence over scientifically proven facts.
All people should have access to free medical care; provided regardless of the care needed.
All people should have access to affordable safe housing.
All people should have access to affordable healthy Whole Foods.
All people should have access to free unbiased education that includes an accurate history from multiple perspectives instead of a single whitewashed version.
All people should be free to practice their chosen religion without persecution.
Patriotism is acceptable, but nationalism is not. The citizens of other countries have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without United States interference.
