Poltergeist (2015)

Release Year: 2015

VUDU was having a sale on paranormal movies. I purchased Poltergeist (2015), Escape to Witch Mountain (1975), and Return from Witch Mountain (1978). Most of the movies in the sale were horror movies and I thought it was weird that the Witch Mountain movies were in the sale….but all the better for me (see Witch Mountain post). I had been wanting to see Poltergeist and it was only a little more to buy it than it was to rent it. I was not disappointed.
I thought that the original Poltergeist (1982) was pretty good for when it came out. Not the most amazing scary movie….but not the worst one either (have you seen Evil Bong?). There were some plot holes in the original that I think the remake filled in….not completely, but at least a little bit. It’s your basic ghost story, only in this case the house is haunted by multiple poltergeists instead of ghosts. Why is the house inflicted you ask….naturally because the poltergeists want to steal a little girl to lead them to the light.
If nothing else, the cast of characters in this latest rendition were fantastic. The children were believable and Sam Rockwell is always fun to watch. Add in a mysterious closet filled with multiple creepy clowns, a weird limbo world filled with spirits looking for the light, a unknowingly clairvoyant little girl, and a possessed tree and you have the making of a delightful story.
Shame on the construction company for building over graves instead of actually moving them….next time find a different place to build!
Will watch again.
