From Dusk Till Dawn

Platform: HBO Max

Director: Robert Rodriguez

Release Year: 1996

Watch Date: July 3, 2021

My Rating: 3.8

My friend texted me and asked why From Dusk Till Dawn was in the Romance section of HBO Max. From what I remembered it’s a vampire movie with George Clooney. Not anything remarkable, and not something I remember being a romance. I told him it had been a while since I’d seen it so I would watch it again.

HBO Max….go home, you’re drunk. If this movie is a romance, then I’m a fluffing flamingo. There was potential for romance between Seth and Kate (although I suspect she is a minor so GROSS), but he gives her money and ditches her.

i vaguely remember sleeping through this movie the first and only other time I have watched it, and now I can see why. The last 40 minutes of the movie was basically exploding bodies….pointless and unnecessary. I will admit I do not like Quintin Tarantino movies (except the Kill Bill movies) and this “in conjunction with” was no exception. It had all of the normal Tarantino elements: racial slurs, naked people, exploding bodies, blood, mentally ill bad guys, and a host of actors that either are or will become stars. Some of my thoughts:

  • I strongly disliked the totally innapropriate discussion about the cafe worker with diminished mental capacity that included the use of the “R” word.

  • I did find it humorous when the burning gas station clerk made the popcorn pop (but I felt bad for laughing).

  • Jacobs questioning of his faith was very interesting…as was his quick re-acceptance of it.

  • I appreciated the inclusion of Tarantino’s real life foot fetish.

  • I enjoyed George Clooney’s tattoo.

I will NOT be watching this movie again.
